Location permissions are essential for MileEZ to automatically detect and track your drives. This guide shows you how to enable the correct location permissions for reliable automatic tracking.

Why Location Permissions Are Required

MileEZ needs location access to:

  • Detect when you start driving
  • Track your route and calculate mileage
  • Automatically stop tracking when you arrive
  • Save trip data for expense reports

Important: For automatic drive detection to work reliably, you must grant "Always Allow" (iOS) or "Allow all the time" (Android) location access.

Enabling Location Permissions on iOS

During Initial Setup

When you first enable drive detection in MileEZ:

  1. Open the MileEZ app
  2. Tap the Settings tab
  3. Tap Drive Detection
  4. Toggle Automatic Drive Detection ON
  5. When prompted, tap Allow While Using App
  6. Tap Change to Always Allow in the follow-up prompt
  7. Select Always in iOS Settings

If You Need to Change Permissions Later

If you previously denied permissions or need to update them:

  1. Open iOS Settings app
  2. Scroll down and tap MileEZ
  3. Tap Location
  4. Select Always
  5. Enable Precise Location

Verifying Your Settings

To ensure optimal tracking:

  • Location: Always
  • Precise Location: ON
  • Background App Refresh: ON (Settings > General > Background App Refresh > MileEZ)

Troubleshooting

Location Permission Still Shows as Denied

  1. Restart the app: Close MileEZ completely and reopen it
  2. Check system settings: Verify permissions in device Settings, not just in the app
  3. Reinstall if needed: As a last resort, reinstalling the app may help

"While Using the App" vs "Always Allow"

  • While Using the App: Only tracks when the app is open (not recommended for automatic tracking)
  • Always Allow/All the time: Allows background tracking for fully automatic drive detection (recommended)

Privacy Concerns

MileEZ only uses your location to:

  • Detect and track drives
  • Calculate mileage for tax purposes
  • Show your route on the map

Your location data is:

  • Stored securely on your device and in your private account
  • Never sold to third parties
  • Only used for mileage tracking functionality
